Profile
After graduating with a degree in English and politics (it seemed a good idea at the time), A J Taylor worked in film and television in his native New Zealand before going back to school for post-graduate studies in journalism. This led to the giddy heights of small-town newspaper reporting, but also rekindled a passion for photography that led to foreign shores and ultimately to a move to Tokyo and Hong Kong and work in the music and fashion industries, as well as for non-profit organizations throughout Oceania and Asia.
Relocating to Europe in the late 1990s, and returning to print journalism after nearly ten years behind the camera, Taylor began honing his writing skills as an editor and travel writer based in Vienna, Austria, and working to combine his love of words and images in one medium.
After ten years as a freelance writer and photographer, Taylor is currently based once again in Tokyo but works throughout Asia, Oceania and Europe for clients as varied as the BBC and Playboy Japan, covering topics as diverse as fashion, food, travel, motoring and lifestyles. His photography has been exhibited in Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom, and he is currently working on his first collection of travel writing.
